s there a more proper (or appropriately stylish) manner in which to ring in a new year then in wholeheartedly basking in the festive creature comforts of one's finest sartorial livery?

I am certainly of the opinion that there is not, which is why I have gone about in fashioning this discerning collection of inspired standout ensembles — each leaning upon a tactile variation of the tuxedo (dinner suit) —  that will have you efficaciously toeing the line between comfortably stylish and sartorialy intriguing come New Year’s Eve.

Just how do you accomplish such a feat you may ask?
The simple answer: opt for sporting a tuxedo.

Having said that, there is a truly remarkable feeling that accompanies the wearing of a tuxedo that has yet to be replicated by any other garment in a gentleman’s wardrobing armoury; a peerlessly indulgent joy and sophisticated nuance that is marked by a simplicity and sensory experience that is astonishingly poignant, festively spirited and well merited in every given respect.

Immaculately imbued with a rich, storied history and ensconced in what is a well cultivated sartorial tradition fully contingent upon a worldly renowned, explicit dress code that rests beyond questionable reproach (remaining frozen in time for a near century), the tuxedo is without question the ultimate form of formal dress that a gent can — nee should — turn to come celebratory affairs such as NYE — which as it so happens is the biggest party night of the year.
quote
Why?
Because it is extremely difficult for any gent to cut an unsightly figure (as long as he has it expertly tailored to perfection that is) whilst wearing one as every last one of us cuts the dashing and debonair figure of a certain Mr. Bond (James Bond that is) when bedecked in one.

And because, and in speaking for the majority amongst us that is, the notion of an overflowing social calendar filled with invites to black tie soirees, weddings, masquerade balls, or any other equal minded social affair is something whose tangibility is likely  steeped more in wistful fiction then reality, which makes this quite otherwise rare celebratory opportunity (to sport one that is) all the more special and not one to simply dismiss.
tuxedo-quote (monk + eero)
In that regard, and for both those who rarely are presented with the opportunity as well as the select few who harbour an affinity for always looking their finest (and cutting a most handsome and charming figure) at all times, I cannot think of a more appropriate manner to marshal in a new year then by that of turning to the sheer tailored opulence of the belle of the festive season's sartorial ball:  The gentleman’s tuxedo.

So, with that in mind as well as in the spirit of casting off what was — by differing accounts — either a truly ominous or perhaps even joyous year, here are two inspirational tuxedo-clad looks that are sure to garner praise and approval whether one chooses to celebrate within the homely confines of his private residence, is intend upon basking in the unbridled polish of any black tie soiree, is jet-setting off to a land of paradise, or plans on frequenting Time’s Square (or any other renowned venue) come the evening of December 31.

***Attending a more casual affair perchance? Well, do not fret as there is also a touch of (pared-down) inspiration for such festivities as well.

A sartorially astute eye catcher in every (tasteful) respect that exudes an elevated level of sophisticated flair courtesy of its lustrously handcrafted (in Italy) ornate floral silk-jacquard finish, this stately Ralph Lauren (Purple Label) shawl collar tuxedo jacket has a distinguishing sense of regality about it that is evident in its duplicitously rakish albeit well mannered sartorial character and traditional styling.

Arguably the living embodiment of formal resplendence and rather quite imposing at first glance (as well as a luxurious investment for those blessed with deep pockets), it is nevertheless — and most assuredly — a discerning NYE selection for those select few who are unafraid of attracting attention or of making an ostensible (albeit well weighted) style statement that properly befits the nature of the celebratory occasion at hand.

Don this resplendent piece de sartorial resistance (or a like-minded, more sensible alternative such as this from Suit Supply) at your upcoming NYE event alongside a rich off-white cashmere-blend turtleneck (rollneck), wool fitted black dress trousers (forgo traditional satin-striped tux trousers in this instance for something more unexpected), and a lively pair of tactile black velvet tassel loafers.
And the key to pulling off this fashionable look with panache?

That would rest in keeping everything — aside from the ornate dinner jacket that is — classically minimalist in detailed styling, muted tonality,  and basic functionality.

In that regard, its perhaps best you venture to keeping your accessories rather simple and straightforward as well, which is precisely why I’ve opted to bookend this immaculate silhouette with a few choice accoutrements such as this exquisite black gold square watch (Larsson & Jennings), a pair of black cashmere socks (which are a stylish salute to cocktail hour with their playfully embroidered martini-clad tuxedo bears), a warm camel faux fur (shearling collared) wool overcoat (Topman), and a set of copper-plated martini glasses (Tom Dixon)  — the latter of which will (literally) top off your evening in a most becoming manner.

A bold, debonair look not for the feint of heart… but one that will certainly win over a few in the process.

parting-words…
Oh tuxedo, how dreary would new years (or any other formal/party occasion for that matter) be if your supernal beauty and sartorial glory did not exist (or heaven forbid, were to fall completely out of favour).

A mere (sartorial) shell of its former itself I would say, which is why I've insisted throughout this feature (in a most diplomatic manner mind you) that you endeavour upon the path of elegantly marking and starting off 2017 on the right (tuxedo-clad) foot while we collectively toast to what is hopefully a bright future replete with (equal) opportunity and individual prosperity — be it personal, professional or sartorial.

So, here’s to properly currying some new years good will and favour with an immaculate gesture of sartorial prosperity delivered courtesy of donning your finest tuxedo this NYE.

For you see, I all but guarantee you will not regret it.

Now as for worthy (style/wardrobe) resolutions and the seemingly unavoidable (perhaps mandatory) singing of Auld Lang Sang, well those festive tropes and New Year’s trappings will most surely fall as they may soon enough  (and perhaps for the former, be highlighted  in an upcoming feature).

Happy New Year from my family to yours!

May 2017 be one that is blessed, prosperous, and endearingly fulfilling to one-and-all.
