A gentlemanly call to sartorial arms…

But, most importantly it serves as a permanent admonition and affirmation as to why I have ventured down my chosen career path whilst likewise functioning as a sound explanation as to why it is that I hold myself to a heightened sartorial standard no matter the occasion at hand.
My point being is that you should aim to dress well not for the express benefit of others but rather for that of yourself. Why? Because self-respect and having style go hand-in-hand, as one cannot (with rare exception) exist without the other. And in having both you will be positioning yourself for success no matter the nature of the task or goal in which you have set forth before you to accomplish.
Having said that, monk + eero — beyond on the surface appearing to be strictly a personal styling portal for the modern gent to reference — has always been about living a life with filled with purpose, one that is driven by style, self-awareness, passion, sartorial prowess, and a steadfast dedication to pursuing lifelong personal growth in all that one does or believes in.
And that is precisely what this brief post + blog update was crafted: it is about ruminating upon the level of self-respect (and the accompanied style) we hold over ourselves while also for taking stock of the past, living in the present, and keeping an eye on what is in store for the future so that we can all become the exceptional gents we know we can be in every facet of our lives, from the personal to the professional.
With that in mind, what you will find strewn about this editor's dispatch are links to a few recent services launched on the site in which you may have missed (if you never venture beyond the blog), a curated collection of the most popular blog features to hit the website in recent times, and a small introspective tete-a-tete (so to speak) as to why personal style is so influential in a mans life alongside a reminder as to why you should be taking the reigns to your life back today.
And as for what to expect from the blog in the foreseeable future, well what I can — without question — promise is an upcoming feature that details what a gentleman should wear to a wedding (from spring through fall) + how to navigate the differing dress codes/themes/locations that accompany such an occasion in addition to a post on how to channel and incorporate the stylish aesthetics (and staple wears) of a certain hardy 1920's international crime-drama that has recently been capturing the imaginations and occupying the silver-screens of gents worldwide for the past three (or so) years..
Beyond that, a (possible) social media/newsletter campaign giveaway/contest is in the pipeline as well, with the first theme likely being one centred around grooming habits + morning ritual.
So, if you would like to keep up-to-date on such matters, do please feel free to follow monk + eero onTwitter, Instagram, Pinterest, or Facebook and sign up for the monthly style newsletter (dossier) to receive exclusive offers — content, discount codes and the like — and up-to-the-minute blog updates conveniently delivered (hassle-free) to your inbox.
As for that tete-a-tete…
For you see, life is not a zero-sum game where there are simply those who have style and those that never will; having a sense of style (nee taste) is not something that is inherited or fancifully bestowed upon only those strictly from a certain class — as was the case in days of yore — but is rather something that is attainable by one and all (given the individual in question is willing to put in the effort and time to learn and earn it).
And it is because of this learning curve that making (styling) mistakes and poor (often misguided) judgement calls is not something that need be looked down upon nor are these simple styling missteps so characteristically damning to a gent's persona that he can never fully recover from them (although one should endeavour to keeping the most glaring of them all to a minimum at all costs). But why and how? By the simple virtues (and active pursuit) of personal enlightenment and refined development — by putting in the effort (and occasionally stumbling) you will undoubtably usher out the rabble whilst ultimately landing upon (and deducing) a brighter picture of what type of aesthetics and pieces suit you and that grab your attention while suitably befitting your personality and chosen lifestyle.
As such, don't be deterred by the fact that there will likely be bumps in the road, obstacles to jump, and (on occasion) gaudy errors best left relegated to the deepest annals of your subconscious to contend with; opt instead to focusing on the positives of the process which at the end of the day will manifest into making you a more capably astute and cultivated gent — one who is more in tune with himself as well as in the power of his style — as due consequence of the simple processes of seeking out refinement, exploring beyond your comfort zone, and smashing through any preconceived fashion misconceptions or the accepted status quo on socially accepted attire — whether it be from friends, working colleagues, or the general country — wherever it is you may reside.
And that is why monk + eero was borne, out of a solemn desire to aiding any and every man — no matter his social standing, monetary means, or cultured background — in his pursuit of becoming a more stylish, successful, and confident modern gentleman… a man whose style is as impeachable as his cultivated and exquisite tastes.
Having said that, and before I leave you to explore the interactive content below, I just wanted to add a small missive about grabbing the bull by the reigns and living life to its fullest while you still can as this has been a matter in which has occupied my conscious thoughts on many an occasion lately. And it goes a little something like this:
Life is about living with intent and chasing that in which you desire; not about resting upon one’s laurels and being satisfied with what has already been accomplished but rather about actively seeking out that next challenge (or pursuit) that drives your spirit and satiates your soul…no matter what it may be (learning to play the guitar, pulling the trigger on asking out the apple of your eye, or truly chasing after that promotion you know you deserve).
So, here’s to finding your inner refined dandy (and your passion) and letting him loose because getting dressed should be an event to look forward to, not something to be abhorred or viewed upon as being stressful or (worse yet) as a chore one wishes he needn't manage. And if properly handled and given the due diligence it deserves, creating a styling ritual in the morning will undoubtably put you in the proper mainframe to achieve success throughout the day while bookmarking every morning in a resoundingly positive manner that sets you about your day beaming with the confidence and tools to achieve all that awaits you once you step through the threshold of your home and into "reality" .
At the ned of the day, it is all up to you, so if you want to dress better and reap all the benefits that accompany it then do so. Seek out the help, put in the work, and educate yourself in all matters sartorial. Why? Because I promise you that you will not regret it as it will have positive permeating effects upon all aspects of your life: from your confidence levels and job prospects to your love life.
SEEK REFINEMENT IN ALL MATTERS OF LIFE . WORK HARD. LIVE POSITIVELY. AND ALWAYS (WITHOUT HESITATION) DO IT IN STYLE…
…and if need be, use this post as an inspiring impetus to chasing after a better life — one filled with virtuosity, decorum and impeachable signature styling.
And always remember that at the end of the day it is simplicity — in all matters sartorial — that stands as the crux of any well-dressed gentleman.
It's tastefully refined convenient shopping in a professional, interactive, friendly, and relaxing manner.
Parting Words
To a gentleman, dressing well and being properly put together has never been about upstaging or being better then his fellow man. On the contrary, it is (at its core) about becoming the best conceivable version of yourself and presenting to the world a polished individual who seemingly has the will and desire to succeed, the drive to carry him forward, and the style to ensure he can accomplish it all without nary a hinderance or excuse to hold him back.
It's about unwavering self-respect and of becoming the true master and navigator of your life — taking it where you want it to go and not feeling sorry for yourself or accepting the status quo. It is about putting in your best efforts in all that you pursue, bar nothing. |

What type of content do you wish to see more of on the blog/website in the future?
Is it multiple weekly updates detailing daily style (outfit) inspiration (i.e. Instagram photos + brief how-to wear it/shop it posts)? Or maybe it is more of what has already been tabled on a weekly basis on the blog: extensively researched style features that include sartorial origins + the histories of essential wardrobe staple alongside charming styling guides, personal anecdotes, and insightful tips that help you understand why it is you should be wearing it whilst aiding in the process of crafting an enduring personal signature style that you can carry with you through life? Neither of those sound enticing? Then how about quick how-to graphics, bulleted lists or a (YouTube/Snapchat) video series or style podcast?
Whatever it may be, do please let me know below (or via this quick 5-question multiple-choice brand survey) and I will attempt to give you gents (and ladies) the content you so desire and actively seek — the type in which you will make you lifelong fans who revisit the website time-and-again without hesitation.
On that note, I would like to say thank you for perusing my humble domain (I am eternally grateful) and to bid you adieu until the next feature is published early next week…
Cheers!
Lyle Eero
