Monthly Selections: June

6/7/2015

WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS MONTH:
June (and soon summer) is upon us and so are my monthly picks. Each is accompanied by an attempt to tie it to style in one form of another…and a little descriptive explanation of why they appeal to me not only intrinsically but also sartorially.

MUSIC

I've been tuned in to Jackson Breit (aka. Mr. Baby Marmalade) for a few years now and he never fails to deliver in the summer music department. This song, alongside many others from his upbeat and evolving music catalogue, will be on my summer list for the months to come.
"Tell Me Something Good" puts on display Jackson's budding talent and buttery smooth vocals (and I mean smooooooth), while demonstrating his proclivity for creating catchy hooks that you will undoubtedly being singing along to everytime you hear them. Topping it all off is the songs laid-back vibe that makes me both simultaneouslly want to don my summer best (typically my suede tasseled loafers/Ray-Ban Clubmasters) and to seek out that quintessential summer fling that can …"tell me something good, ahh yaaaahhhh".

MOVIE

I wanted to pick Jurassic World (Chris Pratt will certainly being holding it down with his safari-inspired wardrobe), but I could not pass up this Melissa McCarthy led action-comedy. And while she may be the headliner of SPY, it is the usually stoic (and action-ready) Jason Statham who steals the show not only in the style department with his tactleneck (which would make Archer proud) and on-point tailored suiting, but surprisingly in the comedic department as well. It is a fun and enjoyable pre-summer romp that will delight both you and your significant other. Opened nationwide on June 5th.

TV

I understand that Royal Pains may not appeal to everybody out there, but it does certainly cater to a very specific niche market that loves it—as its longevity proves (seven seasons). Sartorially, it speaks to those who love preppy/ivy style and a casual and lighthearted summer fling/escape which is as memorable for its beautiful locale (The Hamptons) as it is for its very specific style (keep an eye on Evan, Hank's brother, and Boris, the billionaire benefactor). Season 7 made its debut on June 2 and will play weekly throughout the summer on the USA Network.

WEBSITE/BOOK

Picture
Style Girlfriend is a style resource and menswear website I've admired for quite a few years now. The curator and stylist running it, the beautiful Ms. Megan Collins, offers insightful/trendy advice and how-to guides whilst also interacting with her fan base in a very engaged and uplifting manner. As an up-and-coming blogger myself with aspirations that would one day be satisfied to simply reach her scale and current outreach, her methods and hands-on approach with her many followers is an everyday inspiration to me. And while she undoubtedly does not need my endorsement, I highly recommend to anyone who stumbles across my small blog to visit Megan over at Style Girlfriend to reap the benefits of her unique outlook of men's style from a woman's perspective. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, and I've taken many cues from Megan's delivery system and tried to adapt them and utilize them to best fit my own vision of style.

/ J-CREW FACTORY SPORTCOAT /
From my last blog post. Lightweight linen with natural shoulders (unconstructed) = win, win for you! Keeping (and looking) cool will not be an issue in this (very) affordable natural coloured sportcoat. Being as it is unlined, it will mold with your physique over time while evoking those quintessential summer vibes you will be undoubtedly seeking out in the upcoming months. And seeing as it is a timeless classic, it will not only pay dividends now but for years to come; just make sure to take it to your tailor to nail the perfect fit.
Well thats it for this month, feel free to chime in with your own selections and opinions.
